Successful Treatment of 52-Year-Old Kidney Failure Patient with Multiple Serious Conditions at Wockhardt Hospitals, Rajkot

Wockhardt Hospitals, Rajkot, is proud to announce the successful treatment of a 52-year-old female patient who faced complex kidney failure alongside multiple serious health conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, irregular heartbeats, right heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. This case highlights the hospital’s commitment to advanced medical care and innovative treatment solutions.

In February 2024, the patient arrived at Wockhardt Hospitals with severe symptoms, including diarrhea, decreased urine output, abdominal distension, and pedal edema. Upon admission, her condition was critical with dangerously low blood pressure (90-100/60-70 mmHg). Her urine output was minimal, and creatinine levels had increased to 3.8 mg/dL, indicating severe kidney dysfunction and putting her at risk of needing hemodialysis.

Under the expert leadership of Dr. Pritish Shah, Consultant Nephrologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, a comprehensive treatment plan was promptly initiated. The patient received antibiotics and intravenous dopamine to stabilize her blood pressure, which subsequently increased to 140/90 mmHg, and her urine output improved to 1 liter. Despite these initial gains, her urine output decreased once again, and creatinine levels rose to 3.6 mg/dL, heightening the risk of hemodialysis.

In response, Dr. Shah and his team introduced Midodrine tablets to elevate the patient’s blood pressure to 140-150 mmHg. This adjustment aimed to enhance kidney blood flow and address the underlying right heart failure. The strategic approach proved effective; within three days, the patient’s urine output significantly improved to 1.5 liters, and creatinine levels began to decrease.

Over the next four months, the patient demonstrated remarkable recovery. She lost 25 kg (dropping from 105 kg to 80 kg), and her creatinine levels normalized to 1.0 mg/dL. Her pedal edema resolved completely, and she no longer experienced difficulty breathing after exertion.

Dr. Pritish Shah commended the patient’s progress, stating, “Modern medications and vigilant monitoring are essential for managing complex and critical cases like this one.”

Wockhardt Hospitals, Rajkot, remains committed to delivering exceptional care through innovative treatments and a patient-centered approach.
