Aishwarya Sakhuja is taking her performance to cruising altitude as Shilpa Srivastava, the fiery and feisty head stewardess of Air-Aasman Airlines on COLORS’ ‘Zyada Mat Udd’. Known for her composed and graceful roles in the past, Aishwarya’s latest sitcom is a dramatic tailspin—and audiences are raving about the turbulence! Shilpa is the commander of chaos with a sharp tongue, sizzling one-liners, and a thick Bhojpuri twang that grips everyone’s attention. Whether she’s locking horns with Goldie or running a tight cabin crew, Shilpa ensures the comedy is always in first class. However, stepping into Shilpa’s shoes meant pulling off for Aishwarya.
Talking about the process, Aishwarya shares, “Shilpa is unlike any role I’ve played before—she’s loud, unpredictable, and unapologetically dramatic. Since she sometimes speaks in Bhojpuri, I watched a lot of web series and films to understand the tonality and rhythm. But just nailing the accent wasn’t enough—I had to completely recalibrate my voice and comic timing. I knew the role would be challenging, but the love I’ve received from audiences over the years has been a huge force in pushing me to experiment and step out of my comfort zone. I loved working on bringing out the Bhojpuri twang with perfection, and I took inspiration from Govinda and Javed Jaffrey to polish my comic timing and master physical comedy. They have this effortless way of switching tones mid-dialogue, playing with rhythm, and landing even the simplest lines with impact. That was exactly what I wanted for Shilpa. She’s strict yet hilarious, bossy yet endearing—and getting her voice right was my priority. It took a lot of practice, but I’m having an absolute blast playing her!”
