COLORS’ ‘Doree’ actor Anurag Sharma opens up about embracing the challenge of playing an evil character on screen

In the entertainment world, actors are often celebrated for their ability to immerse themselves in diverse roles and entertain audiences with their portrayal of characters. Acclaimed actor Anurag Sharma from COLORS’ ‘Doree’ has pulled off just that as he embodies an antagonist, Anand Thakur, the evil son of a dominating matriarch in the thought-provoking social drama. The actor remarks that portraying a negative character has proven to be an enlightening experience, revealing unexplored facets of his craft. His show ‘Doree’ has been garnering a lot of love from viewers as it outlines the tale of Ganga Prasad’s six-year-old resilient daughter battling the regressive mindset of Kailashi Devi Thakur, the matriarch of the Thakur household who owns the biggest handloom empire in Varanasi.

Sharing his experience of essaying the role of Anand Thakur in ‘Doree’, Anurag Sharma says, “Doree gave me the chance to reconsider my perspective as an actor and challenge myself. Through this show, I learned what it’s like to be perceived as the villain. I’ve always been drawn to roles that showcase a character’s journey and metamorphosis. Playing Anand offered me the opportunity to delve deeper into the psyche of someone who craves power and follows patriarchal norms without questioning the authority that safeguards them. I realized that within every antagonist lies a narrative waiting to be heard and some vulnerabilities humanize them. It’s not about justifying their actions but understanding the human elements that drive them.”

In the current storyline of the show, Ganga Prasad is falsely accused of ruining Kailashi Devi’s expensive saree. Anand storms in exaggerates its worth, and slaps Ganga. Kailashi threatens Ganga Prasad with bonded labour if he doesn’t pay. Heartbroken, Ganga Prasad and Doree turn to the Bunkar community for help. Will Doree be able to prove her father’s innocence?

Stay tuned to ‘Doree’ airing every day at 9:00 pm only on COLORS.
