Rajkot : Ms. Mirakumari Chavada, a 22-year-old woman, has made a remarkable recovery following two major medical procedures. After suffering a stroke due to a left M1 MCA infarct, she was evaluated by Dr. Chintan Mehta, Consultant Cardio Vascular Thoracic & Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals, Rajkot. The diagnosis revealed a large left atrial (LA) myxoma, which was causing mild obstruction of the mitral inflow. Ms. Chavada initially underwent mechanical thrombectomy for the stroke and showed significant improvement within four weeks.
Following her stroke recovery, Ms. Chavada underwent a minimally invasive procedure to remove the LA myxoma. The surgery, performed through a small 2-inch incision on the right side of her chest, was successful. Remarkably, she was fully awake and conscious within two hours of the operation and was extubated the same day without complications.
Ms. Chavada was placed on a liquid diet initially, which she tolerated well, and then transitioned to solid food. She was mobilized on the first day of surgery, and her drain output was minimal, allowing for its removal on the same day. She was moved to the general ward on the second day of surgery and experienced an uneventful hospital stay. All of her investigations came back normal, and she was discharged on the fourth day after the surgery.
Dr. Chintan Mehta, Consultant Cardio Vascular Thoracic & Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeon at Wockhardt Hospitals in Rajkot, led the surgical team and commented on the successful outcome, highlighting Ms. Chavada’s swift recovery and the effectiveness of the minimally invasive approach.
